What is PostSecret?
PostSecret is an ongoing community art project where people mail in their secrets anonymously on one side of a homemade postcard.
It all began in November 2004 when Frank Warren, from Maryland, printed out 3000 postcards and began handing them to strangers and leaving them in public places.
Each postcard told the reader:
"SHARE A SECRET. You are invited to anonymously contribute a secret to a group art project. Your secret can be a regret, fear, betrayal, desire, confession or a childhood humiliation. Reveal anything - as long as it is true and you have never shared it with anyone before. Create your 4-by-6-inch postcards out of any mailable material. If you want to share two or more secrets, use multiple postcards. Put your complete secret and image on one side of the postcard."
Since 2004, this unique project has grown internationally. We are now bringing PostSecret directly to the Plateau (areas surrounding it include Sammamish, Issaquah, Bellevue, etc.).
To send a postcard in, you can create your own. Pre-addressed blank postcards will be distributed to the public (mainly local schools) soon, and hopefully by the beginning of June.
Tips from Frank Warren, the original PostSecret creator:
Be brief (the fewer words used the better)
Be legible (use big, clear and bold lettering)
Be creative (let the postcard be your canvas)
If enough postcards are recieved, they may be posted at this website (similar to Frank's weekly Sunday Secrets) and/or compiled in a small book, so you'll be able to see what other people in the community have said.
